Innovative Power Solutions in Challenging Locations

Supporting Fredon at Scarborough’s iconic Rendezvous Hotel with a low-noise, low-emission Hybrid Power Solution, delivering reliable performance in one of Perth’s busiest neighbourhoods.

APS was engaged by Fredon WA to support a project at the Rendezvous Hotel in Perth, where the team needed a reliable power source for their temporary site facilities, including a hoist, without disrupting nearby hotel guests. The site had unique constraints: it operated 10–12 hours a day, was situated in close proximity to hotel accommodation, and required minimal noise and emissions. Traditional diesel generation posed several challenges, including excessive noise, frequent refuelling, and high fuel consumption.

Foxtheon P60 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

To meet the project’s demands, APS proposed a hybrid power solution using the Foxtheon P60 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in conjunction with a diesel generator. The Foxtheon unit was selected for its ability to manage peak loads—like those generated during hoisting—while operating quietly and efficiently. Unlike traditional diesel generators, which run continuously, the battery system draws power only as needed, dramatically reducing runtime and environmental impact.

Significant reduction in running cost and emissions

Over 59 days, APS monitored hybrid system performance against a traditional diesel-only setup—and the results were clear. The diesel generator ran just 44.25 hours out of 708, averaging under an hour per day at only 6.25% runtime. This led to monthly fuel savings of around $3,024, despite the site running just 12 hours a day. Carbon emissions dropped by an estimated 7,969kg of CO₂, significantly lowering the project’s environmental impact. Refuelling was needed only once every three weeks, simplifying logistics. With less noise and vibration, hotel operations continued undisturbed, ensuring a seamless guest experience.

The hybrid energy solution successfully delivered consistent power while reducing costs, emissions, and operational overhead. By integrating battery storage into the power setup, APS helped Fredon achieve both performance and sustainability goals. This demonstrated the real-world benefits of cleaner energy alternatives in tight and sensitive environments.

This project is a clear example of how battery energy storage systems can go beyond simply supplying power. They can transform site operations, deliver measurable cost savings, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
